Description

The Crescentia cujete or Calabash tree is a tropical ornamental tree that can grow up to 10 meters high. The tree provides a lot of shade and can therefore be found in many gardens in South America. The fruits of our tree are round, large and green. There are also oval varieties. The fruits are not to be eaten, but in the medicine of various cultures the pulp is used for a syrup against colds and other purposes. The dry fruits are hollowed out, nicely painted and used as dishes and samba balls.
