Description
The Barbados Cherry or Acerola is a shrub-like tree that can grow up to 4 meters high. By pruning it regularly you can grow the Acerola into a beautiful shrub.
Seedlings can start bearing fruit when they are 2 to 3 years old.
The cherries are sweet-sour and red in color. But if the birds don’t eat them sooner, the cherries can turn almost deep purple. The darker the color, the sweeter they become.
Blend the cherries with water and a little sugar gives a delicious fruit juice. The juice of the Acerola can also be mixed very well with other fruits such as passion fruit or mango.
