Description

The Surinam Red (unofficial name) is a commercial variety which is the most available on the markets in Surinam. It blooms 2 weeks later than the Natural Mystic and it is a heavy bloomer. Sometimes a normal size plant has more than 25 flowers. The Surinam Red is a dragon fruit that has adapted well to the strong changing weather conditions. Like all the dragons, the plant prefers a bit of shade on the ground. The taste is crispy, natural flavor (not so sweet) with a little fresh acid and the fruit can reach a weight of 500 to 800 grams. The plant is self-pollinating. Be on time with harvesting, because with a rain shower a ripe fruit can burst. And do not give water 2 days before harvesting the fruit. The taste then becomes less.
