Description

The Hylocereus ‘Asunta’ is a hybrid dragonfruit variety, resulting from a cross between Hylocereus stenopterus and Hylocereus guatemalensis. 

The plant thrives best in a warm, frost-free climate with full sun and well-draining, slightly acidic soil. Like other dragonfruit species, it prefers to climb against a sturdy support structure such as a trellis or pole. The fruit of the Asunta has a striking appearance: the skin remains mostly green even when ripe, setting it apart from the more common red varieties. The flesh is magenta to red in color. The flavor is described as very sweet and aromatic. 

The taste has a subtle coconut aroma. 

In terms of pollination, the Asunta is not self-pollinating; it requires cross-pollination with another compatible dragonfruit variety. Therefore, for a successful harvest, it is essential to plant at least two different and compatible varieties close to each other that bloom at the same time.
