Description

Pometia Pinnata is a big tropical hardwood and fruit tree species, with common names including Matoa, Taun tree, Island lychee, Tava and Pacific lychee. The Pometia Pinnata is from the Sapindaceae family.

The Pometia Pinnata is a tropical evergreen fruit tree that could reach a height of 40 meters. It is a tree that feels best in the humid tropics in full sun or partial shade. Although this fruit is called a Fijian Longan, it is not related to the true Longan (Dimocarpus family). The Fijian Longan is a fast grower. This tree will grow approximately 2 meters per year!

We were able to harvest our first fruits when the tree was less than 3 years old and at a height of more than 4 meters. Our fruits are purple in color and the size of a small egg. There are also green Matoas. The skin is hard and must be cracked to get to the delicious white flesh. The taste reminds many of rambutan. Softly sweet and aromatic.
