The Vanda Miss Joaquim is a natural hybrid between Vanda teres and Vanda hookeriana. It was first discovered in the garden of Agnes Joaquim, an Armenian horticulturist living in Singapore, in 1893.

This orchid is known for its vibrant and striking flowers. The blooms are typically a mix of purple, pink, and mauve, with a distinctive labellum (lip) that is often a contrasting color. The flowers are large and showy, making them a favorite among orchid enthusiasts.

In 1981, the Vanda Miss Joaquim was chosen as Singapore’s national flower. It symbolizes the country’s unique identity and its commitment to progress and excellence.
