Description
Artocarpus Sericicarpus, commonly known as Pedalai, is a tropical tree native to Borneo and parts of Sumatra. It grows up to 25 to 35 meters in height, with large, lobed leaves similar to its relative, the marang. The fruit is round, covered in soft, hairy spines, and has a sweet, creamy, and mildly aromatic flesh, often compared to a mix of marang and jackfruit.
Rich in antioxidants, Pedalai is valued for its potential health benefits, including anti-inflammatory properties. It thrives in well-drained, fertile soils with a pH range of 5.5 to 6.5. The ideal growing temperature is between 18°C to 32°C, with high humidity and consistent rainfall. It is not typically grown at high altitudes.
The fruit is often enjoyed fresh, as its delicate flavor and soft texture make it less suitable for processing or storage.
