Description
The Melicoccus bijugatus also known as Knippa, Kenepa, Spanish Lime or Mamoncillo is a South American tree that can reach a height of 18 meters. It is a slower grower and can lose its leaves in dry times. The fruits grow in bunches and are about 4 cm in size. The flesh under the skin is orange and deliciously sweet with a little sourness. The kernel is relatively large and can be roasted like sunflower seeds.
You will need both male and female trees, although the tree can also adapt and become monoecious. It is advisable to plant 3 to 5 trees to make sure that you get fruit.
Furthermore, the Knippa also has various medicinal properties. You can consult the internet for that.
